Scented candle making, what do you need to know in order to make great aromatherapy candles at home? Well the first thing that you need to do is to have an understanding of aromatherapy and what it all entails. Aromatherapy is not simply sweet and fragrant scents, there is a lot more to it, these scents are designed to sooth, calm, relax, and heal. So which scents are needed and what is the candle making process? In the following paragraphs we are going to go over the basics of scented candle making and teach you how you can easily make your own candles at home.

The first thing you need to know is that the scent is the most important part of these candles so choose your scents wisely. Do you want to set a romantic mood? If so then you should look in to jasmine or roses for the fragrance. If you want to calm and relax then you should look in to eucalyptus or tea tree fragrances. The choice is all yours, once you are through choosing your scents then you can move on to the scented candle making process.

The first thing that you need to do is gather all of the supplies that you need, the supplies that you are going to need are as follows: candle wax, wick, wick tab, thermometer, double boiler, candle mold, scented oils, spoon, and a carving knife. Start off by preparing the mold, simply wipe the inside of the mold with olive oil or vegetable oil as this is going to make the process easier later. Take the wick and string it through the wick tab if this is not already done for you, when this is done place the wick in the bottom center of the mold. If you are going to make a container candle then there is no need to wipe the inside of the mold with oil. Also, you can use glue to keep the wick in place.

Now melt the wax, do this by cutting the wax in to chunks and placing these chunks in the top pot of the double boiler, fill the bottom pot half way up with water. Make sure that you stir often and check the temperature as well, the wax should be ready between 150 degrees and 190 degrees. When this is done pour the wax in to the mold, however, right before you do this add the scent and mix in well. When it comes to scented candle making you are always going to want to add the scents right before you pour the wax in the mold. When the wax is in the mold simply put it to the side to dry for 24 hours. When this time has passed remove the candle from the mold and trim the wick to about a quarter of an inch, you are all done with scented candle making!
