As you get used to making candles and become more familiar with the hobby you can start to look in to using different types of wax, this is assuming that you started out using paraffin wax or soy wax. One of my favorite types of wax to use is gel wax as it offers a lot of different possibilities. Gel candle making is not only fun, it is also easy and rewarding as it allows you to be creative in many ways that the other types of wax just can not allow. So are you ready for some gel candle making?

Now when it comes to using gel wax you can be really creative as you can see through the wax, this means that you can easily use glass containers for the candle mold and fill the bottom of the mold with sea shells, charms, or whatever you want as it will make the candle that much more unique. So ready for the simple steps to gel candle making?

The first thing to do is to gather all of the supplies that you are going to need, the supplies are as follows: gel candle wax, candle mold, wick, wick tab, carving knife, a thermometer, a double boiler, and a spoon. Once you have all of these supplies you are ready to start gel candle making!

Now start by preparing the wax, all that you have to do is to cut it in to cubes and place these cubes in to the top pot of the double boiler. Now fill the bottom pot about half way up with water and place the double boiler on the stove and bring the water to a boil. You are going to want to make sure that you stir the wax often and that you check the temperature as the wax is going to be ready at around 190 degrees. When it comes to gel candle making you have to keep an eye on the wax at all time as if gel wax gets too hot it can easily burn or even start a fire.

When the wax is melted you can prepare the mold, all that you have to do is to string the wick through the wick tab and place it in the bottom center of the mold, if you are making a container candle then you can use glue to keep the wick tab in place. Now if the wax is ready you can add any scented oils or color dyes to the wax just make sure that you mix everything in well.

You are almost done, simply pour the wax in to the mold and let it sit for 24 hours, when this is done trim the wick to a quarter of an inch and you are all done with gel candle making!
