When it comes to cheap candle making the first thing that you are going to want to do is look around your own home for supplies that you can use. Here is a list of different things from around your home that you are going to need: a boiling pot, an empty soup can, a soda can, some food extracts like vanilla or lemon, a carving knife, some olive oil, and a thermometer. Now for the supplies that you are going to need to buy: paraffin wax, a wick tab, and a candle wick, both of which you can find for under $10. Ready for the cheap candle making steps?
The first thing to do it to take the carving knife and cut the top off of the soda can, be careful not to cut yourself. Now clean and dry the inside of the soda can, take your time and be careful not to cut yourself as the rim of the can will be sharp after it is cut, once this is done simply wipe the inside of the can with olive oil, and place it to the side.
Now get the wax ready, do this by cutting the wax in to small chunks and placing them in the empty soup can, make sure that the soup can is both clean and dry before you do this. Now fill the boiling pot with water about half way to the top. Place the soup can with the wax inside of it in to the boiling pot and place the boiling pot on to the stove with the heat on medium. Make sure that you stir the wax often and keep an eye on it so that it does not burn.
Now when this is done string the wick through the wick tab and place it in the soda can, keep it centered. You can use a pencil to wrap the excess wick around and lay it flat across the rim of the can as this is going to keep the wick out of the way when you pour the wax in. Now all that you have to do add the fragrances and the color dyes to the wax, this is optional of course, make sure you stir them in well. When this is done take your time and pour the wax in to soda can, make sure you do not disturb the wick as you do this.
When this is done you are almost done with cheap candle making, all that you have to do now is put the mold to the side and let it sit undisturbed for 24 hours. When the 24 hours have passed simply take the soda can, shake the candle out and trim the wick to about a quarter of an inch, you are done!
