Are you ready for candle making at home?

Step # 1. The first step is to simply gather all of the supplies that you are going to need for the project, the supplies are as follows: newspapers or cardboard, wick, wick tab, candle wax, olive oil, scented oils (optional), color dyes (optional), a candle mold, a double boiler, a candy thermometer, a carving knife, and a spoon or ladle.

Step # 2. Cover your work area with the newspapers or cardboard, make sure that you choose a flat and level surface for your work area.

Step # 3. Prepare the candle mold by wiping the inside of it with olive oil, then string the wick through the wick tab if this is not already done for you. Place the wick tab in the bottom center of the mold, make sure it is centered.

Step # 4. You are half way done with candle making at home, the next steps will be a little bit more complicated. Now prepare the wax by cutting the wax in to small pieces and placing them in to the top pot of the double boiler, fill the bottom pot half way up with water. Bring the water to a boil, place the candy thermometer inside the pot, and stir the wax often, it should melt at around 170 degrees.

Step # 5. When the wax has melted you can add the color dye and the scented oils, make sure that you add only a little at a time and mix in well.

Step # 6. If the wax is ready you can now carefully pour it in to the candle mold, if you want to be extra safe then simply use a ladle to put the wax in to the mold.

Step # 7. Now put the candle mold to the side and let it sit for around 24 hours, when this time is up then simply remove the candle from the mold, trim the wick to about a quarter of an inch, and you are done with candle making at home!
